Maison Dr P.
Turgeau
Construction: 1982
Dr. Philippeau’s house—a large residence featuring an elevated swimming pool—was a prominent landmark in the neighborhood situated above Turgeau.
The houses were viewed as sculptural works: the two towers of the Philipot house evoked Voodoo drums—specifically the *assantor* and the *Manman* (the largest and most sacred of Voodoo drums)—which were visible only from below and from a nearby ravine.
Structural details:
-
The house appears as two distinct dwellings due to its design on a very steep slope.
-
The entrance features a vaulted area and a vestibule, flanked by two towers, one of which is taller than the other.
-
A central section houses the staircases and restrooms.
-
The taller tower has four stories.
-
The house comprises two wings, one of which could function independently.
